My work represents America's contemporary landscape from the way I’ve experienced living in neighborhoods and driving into urban centers over periods of my life. Whether, I am exploring the moon's surface through a telescope on a dimly lit street, driving past tracts of new developments, or walking in the city, I am continuously being provoked to stop, survey, and record, my surroundings. Ultimately, my drawings, paintings, and mixed media constructions, come from the fragments of light, visual vibrations, and sounds, emanating from these spaces.
I have spent the last 13 years as an adjunct art instructor, thesis advisor, and visiting instructor for the University of North Florida (alum 99') and Jacksonville University. I challenge my students no matter what level of experience to make art fearlessly from a rigorous practice and intent to create authenticity.
In 2009, I earned an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio and Theory from Maine College of Art; and soon after, became director of the Art in Public Places percent-for-art program for the City of Jacksonville (2010-2019). Art has been one common denominator to my life's most meaningful adventures including living in the subsistence community of Kwethluk, Alaska during summer 2021 where I assisted in the painting and educational programming of a large-scale mural project at the Ket'acik & Aapalluk Memorial School.
My two solo exhibitions in 2022 included: the "In-Flight Series" in the Haskell Gallery at Jacksonville International Airport and "Surroundings" in the South Gallery at Florida State College Jacksonville. Currently, my works are on display at the Bank of America and Jax Chamber in downtown Jacksonville and Dennis & Ives in the Railyard district.
