My work represents America's contemporary landscape as I’ve experienced it—living in neighborhoods and driving into urban centers throughout different periods of my life. Whether I’m exploring the moon’s surface through a telescope on a dimly lit street, driving past tracts of new developments, or walking through the city, I’m continuously provoked to stop, observe, and record my surroundings. Ultimately, my drawings, paintings, and mixed media constructions are composed from the fragments of light, visual vibrations, and sounds that emanate from these spaces.

Christie Holechek is a fourth-generation Jacksonville native, visual artist, and art educator. She earned her BFA from the University of North Florida and her MFA from the Maine College of Art. From 2009 to 2019, she led Jacksonville’s Art in Public Places program and has taught as a visiting instructor at UNF. In 2021, Christie lived in Alaska to create a large public art installation, which inspired solo exhibitions at JIA Haskell Gallery and Florida State College. She received the Art Ventures grant in 2022 and currently works as an Elementary Art Teacher, and Teaching Artist with Cathedral Arts Project.
